History:
Johann Sebastian Bach wrote a set of six suites which he called ?English Suites? (BWV 806?811). This Bourr?e No. 2 is from his Suite No. 1. As we know: a ?suite? is a set of different dances in different tempi, put together in one frame called ?a suite?. However, this piece can stand alone as a independent piece for performance

J. S. Bach?s English Suites were originally written for the harpsichord and are generally thought to be the earliest of Bach?s 18 suites for keyboard (harpsichord) and thought to have been composed between 1718 and 1720. However, more recent research suggests that the compositions is earlier, from around 1715 when the composer was living in Weimar.

It was common at the time of J. S. Bach, to use any composition to be played by any instruments, if it fit the instrument and was performed by a fine player. In that connection, it is an interesting observation, that Bach never wrote any composition for ?the piano? as it was not invented yet, he wrote for ?the harpsichord? (as we know: a instruments similar to the piano by its keyboard). Today all pianists are playing Bach on piano, and with no public objection from professors of music or music lovers.

This arrangement for 5 trombones.
The ?change of instruments? is allowed with this little nice piece of music: Jazz Bourr?e No. 2, which I have arranged and written out for 5 trombones, with bass and triangle (a whole set of drums will be too heavy). - And not one note has been changed from Bach?s original composition. It is all original!

I am sure if Bach had known the potential of the trombones of today, he would have written a lot of music for trombone. But at the time of Back the trombone and the trombone players were not yet developed up the level of today with sound and technique, performed by fine players.

A nice piece of music from the Baroque time, made in jazz style. Transcription by Per Gade (Not one note has been changed from the original composition). Dedicated to my old friend jazz trombone player and band leader Chris Barber, London.
